In order to quell an ongoing controversy over its nickname, the Washington Redskins have decided instead to change their logo to a redskin potato. The change is expected to be approved by the team’s owner and board of directors at a meeting later this month. “We’ve been looking for a solution to the issues our name was causing,” said Director of Football Operations, John Bishop. “This is a win-win situation,” he added.
Washington is expected to begin using the new logo immediately. So far there have been no comments from any Native American organizations.
Team owner, Daniel Snyder has indicated a reluctance to make any changes to the Redskins name but, his approval of the new logo, appears to be a move toward compromise.
